Monk representa el personaje de un ex policía estadounidense, protagonizado por Tony Shalhoub como Adrian Monk, que trabaja como asesor del departamento de policía de San Francisco, y fue creado por Andy Breckman.
La serie al mejor estilo de Columbo, se basa en la resolución de los casos más difíciles, por este ex representante de la ley, cuyas capacidades deductivas, son realmente excepcionales (y a su vez con ciertas discapacidades o fobias, que le brindan al personaje un carisma muy especial), a pesar de sobrellevar la carga emocional de la muerte de su esposa, cuyo crimen aun no ha poresolver, por lo cual su temática puede evaluarse como drama, comedia y misterio
