La serie arranca presentando la vida apacible y “cuasiperfecta” de su protagonista, Johnny, un joven profesor de instituto que sufre un trágico accidente de trafico que le deja en coma durante 6 años. Al despertar, el protagonista experimenta una serie de visiones que le permiten predecir el futuro, y que le convierten en una persona extremadamente sensible hacia el dolor ajeno, pues parte de su cerebro, la llamada “zona muerta”, ha despertado y le permite evitar catástrofes y sucesos violentos que “ve” por adelantado. Además, su mundo se viene abajo, al enfrentarse con una realidad que ha cambiado por completo: su novia de toda la vida –de la que sigue enamorado- se ha casado con otro hombre, su madre ha muerto, y descubre que es padre de un niño de 6 años al que no conoce. Gracias a su capacidad premonitoria, Johny se tendrá que enfrentar a lo largo de cada capítulo a situaciones límites en las que tratará de defender a aquellas personas que se encuentran en peligro, al mismo tiempo que trata de encajar su propia situación personal.
